Thank You
When I go out of my way to
do a favour for a friend, I like it when they come back and say “thank you”. I’m
not doing it because I just want to hear you say “thank you” for some lame
egotistic reason. I’m doing it simply because I love you and I want to make you happy. Weird, but when you are happy, I'm happy. You may ask,
what’s the point of saying “thank you” when I already know that you appreciate
it? Well, maybe the best person to direct that question to is the wife who had a
busy and lousy day in the office but came back home to spend 2 hours in the
kitchen cooking up a storm so that her husband can have something exciting to
eat when he gets back from work. Or maybe even that guy who works over-time
just so that he can make some extra cash to move his family out of the slumps. A
simple “thank you” will not help me lose weight, neither will it magically get
me a job at the World Bank, but it will brighten my day and encourage me to
keep doing good things for you.
It’s really difficult for
me to imagine that God feels any different. He goes through all that trouble to
make sure that the most qualified people do not get that job of your dreams
just so that you can have a shot at it and get it. He breaks as many hearts as
possible just to make sure that your wife does not end up marrying someone else
before she meets you (Isaiah 43:4). Since before you were born He’s been
working and orchestrating things so that you can get the best that there is of
anything that you want. All that effort, all that planning and all that domino
effect was done for you. He could have taken a break and gone to bed (psalm
121:4) but He did not.
So what can you give to a
God that has everything (because He created everything!) Well, you could start
by showing some appreciation. Let’s make this simple… repeat after me:
“Thank You God for all you have
done for me”.
