Nineteen

It's 11.45pm.

Today was something else. E-mails had been piling up but Ms. Ayoola had not been to the office for 2 days and she was cutting our calls. We promised Mr. Olusesan a revised proposal before 9am tomorrow and she hadn't even approved the outline for the work as at 4pm today.

At 5pm, I decided to use my initiative and proposed to the team that we prepare the proposal based on our draft outline. If she approves it, ok. If she does not, then atleast we have something to work with. If we dont get Mr. Olusesan the revised proposal on time, I was almost sure that Mr. Olusesan will be ready to change companies now - soft spot or not.

Guess who casually strolled into the office at 9.30pm in jeans and a cool t-shirt... my ever "efficient" team leader - Ms. Ayoola (imagine a round of applause).

"You guys are still here? Good job. What are you working on?" She said, so oblivious to our dilemma.

"Mr. Olusesan's revised proposal is due tomorrow before 9am but we don't have your approval for the work and we have been trying to reach you," Ifeoma, a team mate of mine, said.

"Oh, that's true. So how is it coming? I am sure you guys can handle it. Make no mistakes please," was her only reply.

"Would you like to have a look at it?" I asked, trying to dash her some sense.

"Ok but, I am sure you guys will be able to handle it," she said, casually picking up the rushed proposal.

Then she took a seat. Then she got to work. "Change this", "I don't think you thought this through. Add this", "I don't like this, take away that"... and she went on and on till 11pm when she called it a night and strolled out just as she had strolled in - casually!

I love working with my team leader but I am worried that she may be going through some sort of mid-life crises.

How else can one explain this sort of behavior?
