Three

Second week at work and i finally know my way around the building.

Looks like this company really needed to fill this role because they had started copying me in emails from the day that I got my acceptance email - before I resumed! Yikes!! In all my emails, all i could see were numbers, designs and acronyms. Is there an error somewhere? Is this a post-offer trick? You see, i have a first degree in law and law + numbers + lines dont exactly go together.

"Sorry to disturb you ma'am, but i was wondering when my induction and training would be", I said to my team leader.

"Induction, we can do that in 10 minutes. As for the training, we were told that you were fully equipped for the role and no training was required."

I stared at my team leader... she stared at me... silence... she really meant it????😫

I am one of those people that believe that nothing is too difficult for me to understand. I dont believe in the saying that some brains are just not wired to understand certain things. Err... uncle please why can't i understand it? Well, that being said - i was THIS close to becoming a believer!

My mind started going over my interview process prior to getting the job. Did i give off the impression that i didn't need training? Although my position is legal related, it also requires that i get an understanding of architectural terms and construction materials. Why did i think the company would teach me?

Lesson:
1a:You are primarily responsible for your skill acquisition and development
1b: Be honest when applying for a job.
